ADI Part 1 Training and Examination |
||||
Part 1 Exam:Part 1 of the examination is the Test of Theory. First is a computer based touch-screen test, which consists of 100 multiple-choice questions. This exam has a time limit of 90 minutes. The questions are in four groups, known as bands. In order to pass you must obtain a minimum 80% pass rate in each band, with an overall pass of 85%. The bands are as follows:
You are also required to pass a Hazard Perception test, consisting of 14 short video clips shown on the computer screen, featuring various types of hazards. You must respond by clicking the mouse button as soon as you see a hazard developing. There are a maximum of 5 points awarded for each of the 15 scoreable hazards. The pass mark for this test is 57 out of 75; however, you must pass both the multiple-choice test and the Hazard Perception test together in order to pass the Part 1 Examination. There is no limit to the number of times you can attempt this examination. However, after passing the Part 1 examination, you have two years in which to qualify as an ADI.

Part 1 Training:Generally we do not provide Part 1 training. We will advise you of the relevant books and training materials that are available to you, in order to study for this part of the examination. However, if you do have any questions we are always willing to answer email or telephone enquiries. Your first stop should be to order your ADI 14 pack and ADI Theory Test Question Bank from the Driving Standards Agency. This can be obtained by telephoning the DSA ADI branch on 0870 121 4202. This pack will explain all you need to know about becoming an ADI and the processes involved. We would recommend the following reading list as a minimum:
The DSA also produce a DVD - The Official Guide to Hazard Perception - which is a very useful tool in preparing for this part of the test. You should find the books and DVD available from most book sellers, or via the DSA Bookstore and are also available, along with other ADI training aids, from Grade Six Supplies
